Neighborhoods located within the “North Side” include:

Indian Trail/Five-Mile

Located in Northwest Spokane on a map, Indian Trail is a distinct area bounded on the south by Francis Avenue and bisected by Indian Trail Road. A building boom in the late 1970s saw the initial development of the area with numerous neighborhoods featuring daylight ranchers on large lots. As you move north, the construction is newer and numerous planned neighborhoods have been developed. The same is true for the “Five Mile Prairie”. Sitting atop a plateau in Northwest Spokane, you’ll find Five Mile. A haven of planned development interspersed among functioning farms, it’s close to shopping and boasts newer schools (Mead School District).

North Monroe & The Garland District

The North Monroe corridor hosts fabulous antique and vintage shopping, while The Garland District is a unique blend of establishments, including art galleries, eateries, and boutiques. It is also home to Spokane’s longest operating, independently owned movie house: The Garland Theater. The businesses along North Monroe street and Garland Avenue are surrounded by charming neighborhoods of classic Craftsman homes. Upriver/Shadle/Emerson-Garfield

The Upriver and Emerson-Garfield Neighborhoods are anchored by Audubon and Corbin Parks respectively. They feature low-slung Craftsman and classic brick bungalows with pockets of hip eateries and funky shopping options. Shadle is a bit further north encircling Shadle Park and the Shadle Park High School. Homes in this neighborhood are charming post-war era properties.

Wandermere

At the extreme north end of Spokane proper, you’ll find Wandermere. An area boasting large lots and small acreage parcels with expansive mid-century and newer homes. Wandermere golf course is located here and a burgeoning, 55+ new construction neighborhood is perched just above.

Historic Hillyard

Aged to perfection, this historic business district is on the Spokane and National Historical Registries. This working-class neighborhood was built around the late 1800’s railroad industry. These buildings now host pubs, shops, and entertainment. Visit www.hillyardspokane.org for more information.
